Jesus’s parable of the unmerciful servant starkly portrays the debt we owe and the mercy we’ve received — calling us to extend forgiveness as freely as it was given to us. Paul declares that in Christ we are a new creation, reconciled to God so that we, in turn, become ambassadors of His peace. As forgiven sinners, we live forgiven — and are able to forgive — by God’s grace alone.
