The book of Psalms includes some songs, readings, and laments, but as a collection, it is designed and formatted as a book of prayer. In ancient times and during the life of Christ, these psalms would have been read or sung over and over again as a liturgy for God’s people. Today, we still use the psalms as a liturgy in our responsive reading. God’s Word is meant to be repeated and heard so often that it seeps into our minds and floods our souls in times of trouble. Wisdom comes from the Lord in every moment of our lives as the Holy Spirit brings to remembrance the Scripture that is branded in our hearts.
