Our picture of Heaven and Hell has been painted for us by centuries of pop culture and millenniums of wishful thinking. Wings, harps, white robes, lots of singing? Of all the mysteries of Scripture, this is paradoxically the simplest in its description and the most incomprehensible. Are Heaven and Hell actual places or just philosophical ideas? Can we really find “heaven on earth”? Does each individual define what Heaven or Hell will be? We understand the pain of Hell and the peace of Heaven, but we’ve never experienced anything that comes close to their realities. While we attempt a greater understanding of what can’t be fully known, we also trust Christ’s promise of eternal life and salvation. We have faith in His constant presence and that we will be reconciled to our Creator because of His salvation.
