His Miracle, My Understanding
The miraculous event in the life of Cornelius, a Roman centurion, is really a conversion story of Peter. Cornelius was a God-fearing man, a devout proselyte of the Jewish faith. But, Peter was not sure the Gospel was for the Gentile, at least not in the same way he had experienced it. Through his interactions with Cornelius, and the miracle Jesus works in his life, and in Peter’s dream, Peter declares the Gospel is for all people (10:43). This transformation in Peter continues to work out throughout the Book of Acts, but here, Peter embraces the reality of the Church – that Jesus’ love and forgiveness is for all people, not just some.
Following the resurrection of Jesus, Luke records the beginnings of the The Way, the followers of Jesus. This included time of great persecution, uncertainty, and shockingly, incredible growth for the Church. In the midst of the Book of Acts are stories of great transformation as the Gospel is proclaimed, shared and lived out. This series will look at some of these stories to better understand our own stories of transformation in the love and truth of Jesus.
