Peace Lutheran Church’s 2011 Confirmation Class

Join us in worship on April 2 & 3,
as 15 of our young men & women confirm their faith and are commissioned into future ministry as intentional disciples.

There will be opportunities for you to meet and congratulate them after each worship service and join in our celebration of this great stepping stone in their lives.

Confirmation Weekend is a festival weekend at Peace where in each of our worship services young people will stand before God & this community of believers gathered here to proclaim “Jesus Christ is my Savior & Lord!”  It is a sacred rite observed by the church to mark the beginning of a new season in the life of a youth.  It is a public time for them to “confirm” that the faith of their families is the faith that they want to follow for their own lifetime. Confirmation weekend is also a time when you can reconfirm your own commitment to following Jesus in your lifetime.

How do we at Peace help these youths make this transition?
In August, these families committed to an intensive year of study together (youth & at least one parent) called “Christian Discipleship Training.” The confirmation rite is in the midst of the Christian Discipleship Training process that continues even after they have been confirmed.  Each youth will have written a personal faith story (a testimony) that will have been read by our Director of Youth Family Discipleship, DCE Rebecca Brockman, and some of our elders.  Peace hosts a special night of “Elder Conversations” where the youths discuss what they have written with their assigned elders & are encouraged in their faith as the elders share some of their own faith stories.  This year Elder Conversations will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd.  On confirmation weekend, you will have the opportunity to take a booklet home with you that will have all of their faith stories complied within its pages.

A prayer to join us in this journey as it weaves its way toward this festival weekend:

God, there is no greater call than to come follow You…no greater privilege…no greater purpose. Thank You for extending it to each of us!  “Not one is missing, not one forgotten.”  We are amazed and grateful that You have had Your eye on each and every one of us.  By the work of Your Holy Spirit we have become part of Your family…part of Your missionary team…part of Your plan.  Wow!  Thank You!  Create in me a heart eager to answer that call this day!  Create in me a heart to answer that call every day!  Speak into our lives Your purpose for each & every one of us.  Just like these CDT youths, no one can speak in my stead,  “You are my Savior & my Lord!”  Restore the joy of those words to my heart, my life, my reality today.  Increase my faith so that each day there is great joy in knowing that I am right where You would have me.  Make my heart hunger not only for Your presence but also for Your Word.  Just like these CDT youths, may my training as one of Your intentional disciples take my lifetime as You call me to seek Your face.  Enable me to encourage others in their discipleship journeys.  Give me eyes to see those that need to hear Your call through me.  Jesus, you have given me the world & more!  It is Your Name & Your sacrificial life that gives me access to the Father. So, it is in Your Name that I ask all these things.  Amen!
