- Brother’s Keeper
- What a funny-looking bed! It's an "0-bed" to show you that
the name of this book is Obadiah ("0-Bed-iah")! And the two
brothers holding a key can remind you that this book is about
being a Brother's Keeper ("key-per," get it?).
- The brothers we're talking about are really two nations
called Edom and Judah. We call the countries "brothers" because
they were started by two men, Esau and Jacob, who really were
brothers long before.
- Being a "brother's keeper" means taking care of other people
close to you. But guess what? Edom and Judah didn't take care of
each other at all. They hated each other, and fought all the
time! That's not how brothers should act, is it?
- When Judah was being attacked by an enemy, Edom helped their
enemy! That made God unhappy with Edom. So he sent a prophet
named Obadiah to tell everyone that Edom would one day be
destroyed! That's because Edom wasn't acting like a true brother
to Judah.
