- Conquers
- Brave "General Joshua" led the people of Israel to win wars
and conquer, or take over, the new land called Canaan (say
"KAY-nun"). That's why the big idea of the book is Conquers.
Joshua did that so the Jews could live there in peace as God
promised.
- The book of Joshua is full of stories about war and peace.
First the Jews won the land by beating more than 30 enemy
armies. Their most exciting victory was at Jericho, where the
city walls came tumbling down! As they fought, they learned an
important lesson: They won because they really believed God
would keep His promise to help them. They didn't win just
because they had a lot of soldiers and weapons!
- After all that, there was peace in the land. The different
groups, or tribes, of Israelites divided the new nation into
parts and started their lives there. The fighting was over and
the Promised Land was their new home.
- This exciting book teaches us that God will help us do what
He tells us to do, even if it seems impossible. Like beating 30
armies and taking over a whole country!
