- Harlot
- This strange-looking woman is made of hose to show you that
this is the book of Hosea ("Hose-ea"). And she's a Harlot—a
woman who is not faithful to God or her husband. Hosea tells how
God's people had been unwise and acted just like a harlot.
- Hosea was a prophet. God told him to marry a harlot named
Gomer. Why did God do that?
- Well, God loved his people very much. But many of the Jews
were unfaithful—they didn't love Him back. Gomer was unfaithful
too. God had Hosea marry Gomer so he would know how bad it feels
when someone you love is unfaithful to you. That way Hosea could
really tell the people how unfaithful they were being and how it
hurt God.
- Hosea warned that God would discipline the Jews for being
unfaithful. But he also showed the people of Israel that God
still loved them. He did that by buying his wife back from the
slave market, so she wouldn't have to be someone's slave. Hosea
loved Gomer no matter what! Now that's what I call love!
