- Second Law
- These stone tablets are the Second Law, or set of rules, God
gave the Jews. They're singing a duet while running on top of a
man! This picture will help you remember that
Deuteronomy—"Duet-Run-on Me"—is about the Second Law.
- Israel had wandered around in the desert 40 long years.
Finally they got near the edge of the land God had promised
them. Their leader Moses wanted them to take a look back and
learn some lessons from all the tough times their forefathers
had been through. And he wanted them to know how great the new
land was going to be.
- Remember when God gave the Israelites the Ten Commandments?
That was the "first law." Now God tells Moses to explain those
rules a second time, this time to the Israelites who had grown
up during the 40 years of wandering. Moses told them to obey God
and live obedient, holy lives. If they did, God said they could
win wars with their enemies, move into the new land, and be
successful in all they did.
- When Moses finished talking to the Jewish people, he climbed
the mountain to die. Joshua was the new leader who would take
the people of Israel into the Promised Land.
